Befriend your soul.
Reconnect with the unconscious.
Let the work be nourished from within.
Anam Cara: A Resource for Counselors & Therapists
Anam Cara—from the Gaelic for “soul friend”—is a new community learning center in Hickory, NC. We are dedicated to depth-oriented inner work and soulful living. Rooted in Jungian psychology and allied depth traditions, Anam Cara offers a reflective, experiential space where the unconscious can be approached with curiosity, creativity, and care.
While the unconscious is invisible, its influence on our choices, relationships, and clinical work is profound. At Anam Cara, we support individuals and professionals in learning practical, embodied ways to engage the inner world—through image, symbol, dream, and imagination—so that insight becomes lived wisdom.
Why Anam Cara for Therapists?
Therapists are trained to hold space for others—but often have few places to tend their own inner images, dreams, and shadows outside of clinical or supervisory contexts.
Anam Cara offers:
Experiential engagement with Jungian and depth-psychological practices
Soul-centered, meaning-oriented approaches that deepen clinical intuition
Personal renewal and self-care through creative and imaginal work
A collegial environment free of performance, productivity, or treatment goals
An Invitation
Anam Cara warmly invites local counselors and therapists to see our center as:
A place for personal depth work
A source of inspiration for clinical practice
A quiet ally in sustaining the long, meaningful work of tending the human soul
We are happy to tailor workshops for group practices, consultation groups, or continuing education-adjacent enrichment.
2026 Offerings
Starting the year from inner ground
The beginning of the year often brings renewed professional intention—alongside a familiar return to full caseloads, accumulated fatigue, and the quiet pressure to “start strong.” For therapists, this moment offers an important opportunity: not to do more, but to re-establish inner conditions that make sustainable, attuned work possible.
The Inner Witness is a space to pause, reflect, and consciously orient the year ahead from a place of depth rather than depletion. Through Jungian-inspired imaginal practices and guided reflection, therapists are invited to reconnect with the inner stance that supports presence, discernment, and emotional longevity.
This workshop supports therapists in:
Restoring symbolic distance and inner containment before burnout takes hold
Re-anchoring ethical self-care as a foundation of good clinical practice
Beginning the year resourced, grounded, and inwardly aligned
Rather than resolutions, this offering emphasizes orientation—toward steadiness, meaning, and a rhythm of work that honors both therapist and client.
The Inner Witness
Dream, Shadow, & the Therapist’s Inner Life
A depth-oriented self-care experience
Our own dreams, shadows, and complexes inevitably enter the consulting room. This workshop invites therapists to turn inward—not as clinicians, but as human beings with souls that need tending.
Participants will:
Engage their own dreams and shadow material in a supportive, confidential setting
Reflect on countertransference through a symbolic rather than analytic lens
Experience dreamwork and imaginal practices as nourishment and renewal
This session is ideal for therapists seeking soulful self-care, personal meaning, and protection against burnout.
